Fascinated by Flashlights! I remember being fascinated by flashlights when I was a small boy. The way that I could make the beam dance around the room, stop it with my hand, light up the dark. As I got older, flashlights became a utilitarian item, something I took for granted and never thought about much, until the power went out or I had the opportunity to go camping or backpacking. I remember hearing and reading about people who seemed to be fascinated with flashlights as adults. I thought back to my childhood fascination with lights fondly, but I couldn't understand the adult fascination with something that seemed to be purely utilitarian to me, at this point in life. Then one Christmas my daughter gave me a Surefire Nitrolon G2. It was a great flashlight, and I enjoyed using it. As I grew older, I became more and more security conscious, and now I live in a semi-rural setting where there is little light pollution and the dark night is really dark, especially on cloudy nights or a new moon. Somewhere along the line, my fascination with flashlights was re-kindled. I still can't really explain it. But they are fun to collect, and fun and functional to use.
